Djawid Taheri is a practicing lawyer in Ontario with degrees of Juris Doctor (1999) and Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Osgoode Hall Law School of York University in Toronto. He also holds a Master’s degree in Political Science and a combined-discipline Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Psychology. Recently, he completed additional professional and legal training at Harvard University Law School in 2013 and Yale University in 2014. Mr. Taheri is the founder of Taheri Law Office, the first Afghan-Canadian law firm in Canada.

 

Mr. Taheri practices criminal law, immigration and refugee law, and real estate law. He is licensed to practice law in Canada and is a member of the Ontario Bar. He regularly appears before the Ontario Court of Justice, Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Federal Court of Canada, Immigration and Refugee Board, and other courts and tribunals.

 

Mr. Taheri has appeared in numerous radio and television programs in Canada, and has been quoted in various legal and mainstream newspapers and magazines.

 

Mr. Taheri has dedicated a great deal of time and energy in providing charitable and pro bono services in the community as a legal representative or advisor to individuals as well as charitable non-governmental organizations. In addition, he is a founding member of the Afghan-Canadian Bar Association, a legal professional organization for Afghan-Canadian lawyers.

 

He has served as a member of the Board of Directors or a legal advisor to several community and non-governmental organizations, including the following:

For several years, Mr. Taheri has appeared as the resident expert in legal matters for Sabawoon Radio and Television Show in the Greater Toronto Area.

 

He has also been interviewed by, and quoted in local, national, and international newspapers, including the Globe and Mail, The Toronto Star, the Toronto Sun, the Boston Herald, Zarnigar, the Multicultural Voice, and Watan Weekly.

 

Mr. Taheri has written on a variety of legal and political issues, including immigration law, criminal law, real estate law, corporate business law, international human rights law, Islamic law, and international affairs. His writings have been regularly featured in a multitude of ethnic newspapers. He also regularly delivers lectures and presentations to community organizations and school boards on various areas of the law.

 

Mr. Taheri is fluent in the English, Dari, and Farsi languages and possesses working knowledge of Pashtu language.
